Here we go to the edge of the moon

sainthood

Ok so Mary MacKillop is soon to become the first Australian Saint.

The other day on the radio I heard a tiny snippet of a report about the process. The presenter said, “her second miracle”. I was a little confused so I went and did some homework and it seems that to be named a Saint you must have performed three miracles. Now, for the record I am Catholic so this should probably make sense to me, but it doesn’t. Isn’t it a little ridiculous that there are specific criteria that need to be filled for becoming a Saint? And what’s more, how on earth does one define a miracle?? I can’t even imagine committees of cardinals sitting around going, “Oh but was that really a miracle, I mean look at what Saint Anne did” ; because it just seems a bit laughable.

However, don’t get me wrong, it’s exciting to have an Australian, female Saint. Extra pride because she was born in fitzy ;)
